At the release of the SX Corolla in Australia in 1989, Toyota Australia decided to break a few Australian records at the Calder Park Thunderdome. Seventeen records were broken, these two being the most notable:
24hr record: 3666.41kms at an average speed of 152.78 kph - beating the old record by over 1000 kms!
50km record: 18mins 20secs - beating the old record by almost eight minutes!
Some or all of these records may have been beaten by now, but either way it was an impressive effort from the little Corolla!
